Typhoon Observation Platform built by unparalleled Typhoon Unit
on December 3rd 1991 is located on Suri ridge, the highest ridge
of Mt. Biggi at Hoengsan-ri, Jung-myeon about 65km away from Seoul
and about 140km away from Pyeongyang.
At first, boundary line of south and north was established at
2 km distance from Military Demarcation Line but North Korea has
installed iron fence near by cease-fire line in 1968 and so South
Korea also installed iron fence partially in 1978.
Accordingly, Typhoon Observation Platform became about 800m distances
from cease-fire line and 1,600m distance from North Korean guard
post and it became the nearest observation platform to North Korea
along 155-mile cease-fire line.
Typhoon Observation Platform has churches, Catholic church, statue
of Virgin Mary, Buddhist sanctum, and pavilion for bell that the
soldiers can have religious assembly, monument for the people that
their native place is in North Korea and monument to the memory
of war record.
Also an electric bulletin board for broadcast to the north to
play voices of freedom, peace and love to North Korean countrymen.
Also pavilion exhibits daily commodities of northern people collected
Imjingang Pilseung Bridge located 2km away from pavilion and invasion
equipment that armed spies has used during their infiltration over
tens of times after cease.
Traffic Guide ¢¡ Come to Hoengsan-ri by bus from Yeoncheon and
walk on foot for 30 minute. Come to
¡¡ ¡¡ ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¡¡¡¡ Jung-myeon office by car and visit after checking
on ID at guard post. (15 minute)
