Gyeongwon line has been an important means of land transportation connecting this gun and Seoul, Dongducheon, and Uijeongbu from construction of the line to today.

Gyeongwon line opened on September 6th. 1914 was 222.7km in length connecting Yongsan and Wonsan, but now it is being operated only the section of 57.6 km from Uijeongbu station to Sintan-ri station due to partition of Korean peninsula.

The train that has delivered people and supplies coming and going Seoul and Wonsan before Korean War now return at Sintan-ri station. There is no railway between Sintan-ri station and Pyeonggang over the cease-fire line passed Cheolwon Station.

North Korea has been calling Gyeongwon line running from Pyeonggang-Saepo-Gosan-Tongjiwon to Wonsan as 'Gangwon line' for long. There is signpost informing southern end of Gyeongwon line with the sentence "The train wants to run" nearby Sintan-ri station and it gives pain of partition of Korean peninsula.

There are seven stations of Gyeongwon line in all running through this gun as of end of 1998.

Jeongok station was built for the first among those stations and opened its operation as normal station on August 14th. 1914. Next, Daegwang-ri station initiated its operation as normal station on September 27th. 1912. And July 10th 1913 next year, Sintan-ri station started operation as simple station and initiated operation as normal station on July 10th. 1954. On July 25th 1914, Yeoncheon station started operation as normal station and these four stations were built before Gyeongwon line was opened and only these stations were operated during the rule of Japanese imperialism.

Since then, Choseong-ri station started operation as normal station for transportation of supplies of war on December 26th. 1958 when this gun was under the rule of North Korean government. After recovery, second grade of selling agency was established at Sinmang-ri station on October 1st 1956. And with swarming tourists after development of Hantangang National Tourist Resort, Hantangang station was constructed and started operation as simple station to provide convenience to the tourists on June 28th. 1975.
