King Gyeongsun is the 56th King of Silla and his family name is Gim and last name is Bu. As the 6th descendant of King Munseong, his father is Hyojong renamed as King Sinheung after his death and his mother is Queen Gaea, daughter of King Heongang.
In 927, he took the throne with support of Gyeon Hwon after King Gyeongae was killed by attack from GyeonHwon while having fun at Posukjeong. But his policies and public sentiment of Silla has inclined toward Wanggun rather than violent Gyeon Hwon.

In 931, Wanggun was granted an audience and he had his soldiers keep quite and not to break law during his stay for several days. Hence, ladies-in- waiting have said that Gyeon Hwon's visit was like meeting tiger and jakal, but Wanggun's visit was like meeting their parents.

When the territory of the nation got gradually reduced due to frequent invasion of late Bakjae, rivalry of local leaders in 935 and the national function got paralyzed, Silla decided to surrender to Koryo with retainers and had Bonghyu Gim deliver a military letter to Wanggun informing on it. Hence, he became the last king of the nation in the 8th year of his reign. At this time, his eldest son Maui has aggressively objected surrender and his youngest son Beomgong went to Hwaeomsa Temple and became a Buddhist priest.

When he surrender to Koryo with all the government officials, wagons and horses reached about 30 -ri (1ri=0.4km). Then, he was designated as Prince Jeongseung by Wanggun and received Yuhwa palace and he was appointed as Sasimgwan of Gyeongju with one thousand som(5.12 U.S. bushels) of salary and re-married to prince Nangrang, daughter of King Taejo(Wanggun). King Gyeongsun died in the 4th year of King Gyeongjong of Koryo (979)43 years after surrender to Koryo and received posthumous name as Gyeongsun.
