About Cultural Properties

Buddha of Obong temple site is a pagoda for preserving relics of a monk, a bell
shaped Buddha, which was popular throughout Chosun Dynasty since late Goryo era.
The height is 2.07m and the width is 3.17m. It has clean and elegant look, and
the material is tuff. Bell shaped main stone is placed on the rectangular platform.
The upper part is rather large compared to other bell shaped Buddhas, which is
unique in this Buddha.
The upper part of the main stone is decorated with lotus flower pattern, and
clear thick band is distinctive. From fine writing of ¡®the tombstone of high
priest of Obong, promote lights of Buddha¡¯ on a monument built in 1982, it
is indicated that this is a Buddha of a renowned priest called high priest
of Obong who contributed greatly to the development of the temple. There are
traces of bullets on the surface, and support of the tombstone remains nearby.
