About Cultural Properties
Shimwon temple site is composed of 2 tombstones in lower part of the site and
12 Buddhas of priests. There are some Buddhas with unbalanced form because the
stones were mixed, however most of the Buddhas followed traditional style for
Buddhas(octagonal) and stone jar shaped style, which was popular during late
Goryo and Chosun.
Tombstones and Buddhas for high priests including Jaewoldang Gyeonghyeon,
Chuiwoondang Haklin, Hoyeondang Taeho, and Chungshimdang Doil, all of whom
followed practice of Chunghuo Hyujung(1520~1604). Buddhas of Jaewoldang Gyeonghyeon
has main body with a roof decorated with clouds and dragon pattern on the platform
decorated with eye pattern.
¡® Tombstone of high priest Jaewoldang¡¯, written on the tombstone, was written
in seal characters, and the rest of the writing on the stone was written in
printed style. The tombstone for Chuiwoondang Haklin(1575~1651) was built in
the 3 rd year of Hyojong(1652), which has wide top and narrow bottom.
