About Cultural Properties
It is a table shaped dolmen, which is typical of Bronze Age, made of basalt,
and located at the entrance of Gopo-li, near the national high way 3 between
Jeongok and Yeoncheon. Dolmen is the representative tomb of Bronze Age, which
can be divided into table(northern style), checker board(foundation style), and
open(baseless) styles.
This table shaped dolmen has a room with 4 foundation stones on the ground
with large cover stone(open stone) on it. Shield stones for both sides are
now gone, only two foundation stones remain. Stones used in dolmen are basalt
that can be easily found in the area, which were majorly trimmed as cover stones
and foundation stones.
Cover stone is in rectangular shape, 3.4 m in length, 2.2m in width, 0.4m
in thickness, and placed long in south and north directions.
The cover stone is partially smashed. It is 1.5 m tall from its top to bottom,
and its foundation stone in the east side is 0.97m tall, that in the west side
is 0.7m tall, and 0.17~0.42m in thickness. Width between foundation stones
is 0.7~0.8m, and the height of foundation stone exterior is 1.2m. There are
many findings of dolmen in the area of Tonghyun-li, Eundae-li, and Yangwon-li
in Yeoncheon-eup, which have academic significance.
